It allowed me to press play on triathlon chaplaincy for a morning. Let me explain. We all wore the same shirt name on the front but on the back got to have a nick name mine being Fit Pastor.
Throughout the race I got to hear the wise cracks from race participants such as, “Hey bro you gonna turn water into wine today haha?” Or… “I bet that dude will rip it up he’s got extra help today from the man upstairs.”
On the other hand as I ran by others it was so cool to hear comments like, “Dude how cool there’s a pastor out here doing this race!”
It was while running in a rocky ravine through muddy water where God showed up. A man named Thomas tripped over a rock and face planted into the side wall and went straight into the water. When he came up he was dazed and blood was gushing from his chin.
I had just met a guy and was running side-by-side that was wearing this t-shirt. I’ve got to get me one of these!
I said, “Hey God is greater lets help this guy out.” While racers continued onward God is greater and I helped Thomas over to the side bank, pulled off a do-rag and put pressure on the wound. Then I asked, “Thomas do you mind if we pray over you?”.
While medics were coming, right there on a Sunday morning in a rocky, muddy ravine, the power of the Holy Spirit showed up. God became greater than a bloody chin and the doubts of unbelievers. We cried out for Thomas as though we were at an altar dressed in our Sunday’s best.
I have no doubt God touched Thomas and a seed not only for him was inserted, but all those around us that were speculating and watching some guy with Fit Pastors and a guy with God is Greater on their shirts.
Praise God for spirit-led and spirit-ordained circumstances in which he places us at the right place, at the right time, for his glory to shine!
